My dog is acting strange after grooming

My dog is acting strange after grooming.

It doesn't seem like anything is wrong with him... It's just that after grooming him and while he is cleaning himself he acts really hyper, like nervous and is chewing his paws and acting like his legs are shaking, then he acts really calm and is resting like normal. Could it be me being so tired? If so is there anything I can do to make him calm down while he is having a wash? I've always thought his grooming was part of his calming down routine, he is normally happy when he has been groomed and it seems this is what he's doing now but its been going on for about 2 days and I can't get him to relax like normal. He normally will just take his time to cool down and relax and has been doing so since he was a puppy.

Has this happened to anyone else? It's really bothering me. I don't want him to be injured so please give me advice. I'm at work now so I'm not going to do anything drastic while he is grooming himself... I was going to give him some food when I get home tonight.

There is a lot of room for interpretation about this scenario. It sounds like there is a good chance that something needs attention. Dogs can often pick up on things when someone is being stressed and it may be hard to tell if they are aware of that situation or just act that way. It sounds like he has some other issues that are bothering him as well, though.

When they act like this it could be from a variety of issues. Some dogs can be very vocal during certn times, for example after grooming. I would watch this closely to see if you can catch the issues before the dog becomes injured.

How can I be sure if this has happened to me? It could be as easy as reading a book but I was hoping someone could tell me exactly when his behavior may have changed? The only thing that was different before he started to behave like this was when I had to leave the house for work. He was so relaxed and easy-going... Now all of a sudden I find him super hyper when I'm around and if I leave he gets restless. I'm wondering if it's a case of if I'm around him then he's normal, but when I'm away from him he feels like there is someone else here. I think he has separation anxiety as well but I'm not entirely sure and if that's what it is then it may not matter.

Thanks for all the responses. I've been in today and the receptionist told me I sounded hysterical about it but it's hard when I just have no idea how to deal with it! I've been in the work place for less than a month so I'm not sure if it's a new pattern or it just started yesterday or what... It does seem that it started yesterday, there was no new person in my life, I haven't seen any change or anything that has been happening. It was also a Tuesday. Anyway, I went in today and they offered me a free appointment. We shall see!

Oh, and I wanted to say I've had an incident with my dog as well. He's usually the most friendly and easy to be around, but one day this summer he got into my bed and slept there for a whole day and night, completely covering me and acting really agitated when I tried to move. He went to the vet the next day and she was able to pin point it to the fact he ate some kind of bug and it caused his intestines to twist and it made him so sick he had to go to the vet immediately and couldn't keep it down for a whole day... that was a long week! Anyway, so I'm wondering if it could be something like that since it started suddenly and I noticed no behavior change. I was hoping maybe I could come to a conclusion and figure out what was going on and what to do... I also noticed he's been doing the same thing more frequently the past couple of months.

I'm just gonna go do something so I won't worry about it anymore. I'll write more later.

Re: I just got a job and I'm terrified

Hi,

My daughter left her job a while back and started to work part time in retl, she did it because she loved working with the people and I think it helped a lot her social and emotional well-being. I think a part time job is a very good choice to ease into a "real" job. It sounds like you've had an exhausting week at the vet and you're dealing with a lot of changes that are new to you. You should make yourself do something that feels good, like going for a walk or cleaning your home for a half hour or a whole hour, to let off a lot of stress. Go for a run if you can! It will do you good! But I think I might add an ice cream truck in your neighborhood, one where you can listen to music while you're walking and it will make your walk just great! That's what our little boy used to love, an ice cream truck, so I might get you one of those too. I think it would do you well! Just know that it's ok if you have to take time off and take care of yourself!
